If you are born in a small village, Northrhine - Westphalia, Germany, and you want to be a professional musician, you have few options: join the army, or apply for Ernst Mosch polka band,
... or just a crazy idea.
But that was exactly what was intended for me in the course of my life: village, local band, fire brigade's events, conversations about being a professional musician started what, according to many, should have been avoided.
Profile actually: Freelance musician, conductor symphony orchestra and brass/wind ensembles. Clarinet and saxophone player.
Profile: Chief Conductor Orquesta Sinfónica de Oriente, Santiago de Cuba (2023 - 2026).
Looking back, I would say that things have happened and I have achieved knowledge and skills which I would never have imagined.
After studying clarinet, superior level at the conservatory in Bremen, with Herbert Rönneburg as tutor, having played with Brazilians, Chileans, Peruvians, Mexicans…, participating in theatre works as musician and clown, Trio Pantango with two Argentinians for couple of years, then clarinet and principal clarinet in Santiago de Cuba Symphony orchestra, I have been it's chief conductor for three years.
Living European accuracies, discipline and their Latin-American and Caribbean counterparts and combining them, is an attempt that sometimes fails but always enriches artistic thinking, processes and aesthetics.
Conception and reception of cuban symphonic music implies knowledge of dances, rhythms, cultures which are not easyly accessible for Europeans. The marvellous, the amazing is exactly this: contradictions are very helpful, although sometimes difficult in the working process.
My perception, acceptance, interpretation of music has developed it's own dynamic, thus the process is ongoing. The course of my life combines diversions, accept ame of contradictions, and patience. This is what has influenced my reading and interpretation of music.
And my conducting is that of a musician that comes from the orchestra's inside.

Si uno crece, como yo, en un pueblo del Suroccidente de Westfalia, de la zona Rhenania septentrional, y desea ser músico profesional, hay pocas opciones: el ejército, o integrar la banda de Polka, de Ernst Mosch ... Igual se será declarado loco.
Perfil actual: músico, director de orquestas sinfónicas y de bandas. Clarinetista y saxofonista.
Perfil reciente: Director titular de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Oriente (2023 - 2026)
Resulta que el recorrido de mi vida ha previsto justamente eso para mí. El pueblo, su banda amateur, sus fiestas populares, conversaciones mientras jugábamos barajas evocaron exactamente aquello que iba a ser evitado.
Desde la retrospectiva solo puedo decir, que sucesos y conocimientos se sumaron de modo que no me lo había imaginado ni vislumbrado. Luego de los estudios en Bremen, con el profesor clarinetista Herbert Rönneburg, tocar con Braileños, Chilenos, Peruanos, Mexicanos… realizar música incidental para teatro, integrar el Trio Pantango, luego 25 años como clarinetista y clarinetista principal en la Orquesta Sinfónica de Oriente, con sede en Santiago de Cuba, resulta que en la actualidad soy su director titular.
Vivir tanto la exactitud y disciplina europeas, como sus similares, o no tanto, en América del sur y el Caribe, deviene intentos de unirlos, no siempre exitosamente, mas casi siempre fructíferos para el pensar artístico, y la estética.
La recepción de la música sinfónica, tanto cubana como latinoamericana, implica conocimientos de danzas, ritmos, culturas, los cuales, generalmente, no son de fácil acceso para los europeos. Lo maravilloso, sin embargo, es justamente eso: las contradicciones. Son de gran ayuda, aunque a veces difíciles en los momentos de trabajo y realización.
En lo personal, recibir, aceptar, interpretar la música en general, ha desarrollado acorde a eso una dinámica propia, y no es un proceso concluido. El recorrido de mi vida reúne desvíos, aceptar contradicciones, y tener paciencia.
Mis lecturas de obras musicales están inspiradas justamente por eso.
Y mi manera de dirigir es aquel de un músico de atril, que viene de adentro.

Wenn man, wie ich, auf dem Dorf in Südwest-Westfalen, nahe Nordrhein, gross wird, ist Berufsmusiker werden entweder Bundeswehr, oder Ernst Mosch … oder nur verrückt.
Jetzt hat aber mein Lauf des Lebens genau das für mich vorgesehen. Dorf, Schützenkapelle, Feuerwehrfeste und Gespräche beim Doppelkopf über Berufsmusiker entfachten genau das, was eigentlich vermieden werden sollte.
Profil aktuell: Freiberuflicher Musiker, Dirigent Sinfonieorchester und Blasorchester, Klarinettist und Saxophonist.

Im Rückblick kann ich nur sagen, das sich Ereignisse und Kenntnisse hinzu gefügt haben, die ich so nicht erahnt oder vorhergesehen habe. Nach Studium in Bremen bei Herbert Rönneburg, das Spielen mit Brasilianern, Chilenen, Peruanern, Mexikanern … Theatermusik, und Trio Pantango, danach 25 Jahre Klarinettist und Solo-Klarinettist im Orquesta Sinfónica de Oriente, ansässig in Santiago de Cuba, bin ich heute Chefdirigent des Orquesta Sinfónica de Oriente.
Das Erleben von europäischer Genauigkeit, Disziplin, und deren Pendants in Südamerika und Karibik ist ein Versuch einer Vereinigung, die nicht immer gelingt, aber fast immer fruchtbar für ein künstlerisches Denken und Ästhetik ist.
Das Auffassen kubanischer Symphonik und lateinamerikanischer symphonischer Musik impliziert Kenntnisse von Tänzen, Rhythmen, Kulturen, die Europäern nicht so einfach zugänglich sind. Das Wunderbare, also das, was uns und mich immer wieder verwundert, liegt eben darin. Widersprüche sind dementsprechend sehr hilfreich, wenn auch manchmal schwierig im Arbeitsprozess.
Meine Auffassung, Annahme, Interpretation von Musik hat demzufolge eine eigene Dynamik entwickelt, und ist nicht abgeschlossen. Der Lauf meines Lebens vereint Umwege, Akzeptanz von Widersprüchen, und Geduld.
Mein Lesen und Interpretieren von Werken ist durch genau das beeinflusst.
Und mein Dirigieren ist das eines Musikers, der lange mittendrin gesessen hat.
